Default Mission/Quest penalties for early leavers.

Hi,

I'm sure there are lots of others fed up with people leaving early during quests or missions after getting what they want. ie; in the coop mission
to get infused, people leaving after getting infused.

I propose:

1) Any benefits and items/gold received should not be registered permanent
until the mission or quest is completed.

ie; in the example for above the infused armour would not be registered permanent until the mission is complete, the mission would still recognise them as being infused but not permanent until the cinematic at the end. Any level upgrades, skill points, items etc would be removed unless completed.

This does not penalise those that fail missions or quests only those that leave early.

2) Repeated abusers - should be barred from certain areas of maps, those still
with more areas to cover would be prevented from doing so. Those people that have completed the whole area, should be barred from certain areas(high reward item areas for example- Droknars onwards and infused areas).

For these repeated abusers- introduce a Debt Collector or Warden in which the abuser would need to earn credits to unlock those barred areas, earned by completing a number of DIFFERENT missions or quests in the earlier stages(which they completed or not earlier).
However, they must unlock them in order, they can't just unlock the ones they want including barred areas..

This would mean advancing players would hopefully get help, the bad players are less likely to quit in missions in order to pay off their debt.

Further to this, abusers shouldn't be able to advance their level any more during this period, barred from using keys or earning gold.

3) Possible further action - Rather than their guild emblem on their cape, have a rogue symbol/text on their cape, so people can be aware of these abusers.

Let me know what you guys think. Hopefully the guys at Arenanet are paying attention too.

What if you drop out by connection or power failure? That would be rather unfair to penalize these people. Here's a solution that has been proposed many times: play with henchies or friends. Your solution would introduce other methods of abuse, namely purposely sabotaging the group so they can fail. If people are intent on leaving, they can be intent on aggroing massive groups of monsters just to get people to fail so they can leave the mission earlier without suffering penalties.

I can see them doing both that, and just stopping where they are and flipping channels on the tv or making thier nightly phone calls to thier friends while they wait for the rest of the group to either finish or fail. Unfortunately these people that are intent on not helping beyond getting what they want, will always have a way around having to help the party be successful, and the only way a punishment could be fairly handed down would be if some sort of mod was actively watching thier actions at the time, and that would be fumdamentaly impossible to have in a game with this kind of playerbase.

the problem with playing with friends is that they are mostly not online when you are. Henchies, they are not very reliable at all times esp. when making a run to get infused. they get all killed about 3/4 of the way and no more distraction for the enemy on the rest of the way.

if they try to sabotage, it might be nice if the group can vote to give penalty to him.

Maybe we should think from the other direction, and give everyone a small incentive to finish the mission/quest. I know I'd appreciate a small XP or gold bonus for helping a guildmate finish a mission I've done before, and it might encourage more people to stick around till the end of the mission.

Yeah..I've experienced couple of same problems before.
Since we can't clearly distinguish intentional leavers and unintentional disconnection to make fair decision...how about we work other way around?

Award those who stay behind to complete the mission safely.

1-Morale boost
2-This is my favorite one...if someone leaves? then *Kiloy Stonkin will shout, seeking revenge for those who left the game. The team will influenced by Kiloy Stonkin shout for like 10 minutes everytime someone
leaves/disconnects or
3-you can add your idea here

*For those who don't know him, Kiloy Stonkin is an awesome dwarf from Sorrows Furnace.

always those "power failure" whiners...
how often does that happen? expecially compared to the intentional leavers.
of 100 drops i would assume 98 to be intentional, and those SHOULD be punished.

sure its is a pitty that those 2 of 100 that didnt want to drop would get the penatly too, but i dont whine all the time because i had lag and got killed either.

i have to fight boring, hidden, enchantment stripping, meteor spamming mob after mob, because anet felt they had to prevent some idiots from solo farming everywhere. >I< get punished every hour i spend playing GW because of the playing style of >others<.
i think it would be completely justified to punish someone who interrupts the gameplay of his group, intentionelly or not.

also, how are you supposed to get to know new people, if you only play with "old friends" and henchies?

instead of penalizing the player why not help those who stay
go and read this one.
